The Blue Flag awarded beach of Plakias is one of the most famous and at the same time one of the longest beaches in Crete (1.3 km length). The Pirates took refuge inside this sheltered bay, which is a very narrow cove, formed between enormous vertical cliffs. The tiny beach shaped here has sand at its starting point and doesn’t exceed 2m in width! It deepens abruptly and changes to a deep rocky harbor. Today you will not find any pirates, but a swimming spot is formed. You can find sunbeds and umbrellas on the smooth rocks surrounding the fjord. You can also take some scuba diving lessons.
